TOPIC: It Pays To Obey And Be Patient

OPENING PRAYER: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: 2 King 8:1-15

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 18th June 2023 MESSAGE:

While most Israelites were living in apostasy and suffering for it, the Shunammite woman continued to enjoy the benefits of being under the ministry of such a spiritual man as Elisha. We must, however, note that she believed and obeyed God’s instructions through Elisha. When Elisha told her to relocate to escape the famine, she did not argue, and she did not allow the fear of losing her wealth to keep her from relocating (vs.1-2). She seems to understand that life is more important than material things. Compare Lot’s wife (Genesis 19:26).

Just at the very moment Gehazi was narrating her story to the King, the woman walked in with her son, confirmed Gehazi’s story with her testimony and the King restored her land to her (vs.3-6). Is this a coincidence or an act of divine arrangement?

In vs.11-15, we see Hazael, a man who does not know how to manage revelation. He was in haste to have what God had already promised to give him. We must never take matters into our hand in a bid to see God’s promises fulfilled in our lives.

Practice/Word Application
So What? Are you trying to help God by using some underhanded methods to achieve His purposes for your life? Desist because God is not happy with such.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, please give me grace to be obedient and patient as I wait for the fulfilment of your promises in my life.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Samuel 22:40
