TOPIC: Seeking God Brings About Reforms

OPENING PRAYER: May the meditation of my heart be acceptable unto you, O Lord as I read from your word.

SCRIPTURE: 2 Chronicles 34.1‐18

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

SU DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Observe how, since the beginning, Josiah walked faithfully in God’s ways like his ancestor king David (v.2). At age 16, he chose to seek the Lord personally. As a young man of 20 years, his love and devotion for God led him to purge his country of idolatry (vs.3‐4) and to repair the temple when he was 26 years (v.8).

Does Josiah’s example motivate you to take any action? You may not be too young to live for Jesus and challenge others to follow your example. Notice the extent of his reforms (vs.4‐8). He dealt zealously with sinful people who were responsible for evil practices among God’s people both within and outside his nation (v.5).

The zeal of the Lord truly consumed him. How serious are you in getting rid of sinful habits and distancing yourself from people who are leading many astray? Observe how the Book of the Law was discovered by Hilkiah (vs.14‐15). Yet all those years, it had been in the temple, but it was only gathering dust, forgotten and neglected! Shaphan brought the Book of the Law without delay to king Josiah and read from it. God’s word, if it is not read, avails to nothing.
