Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th January 2023 MESSAGE

The incident in vs.24-25 is very strange. Finally, Moses was now on his way to fulfil God’s special mission to deliver Israel. Now, God wants to kill him! Why?

Moses had to learn the lesson of absolute obedience to God’s commands. One of those commands was that ALL the male descendants of Abraham were to be circumcised (Genesis 17:9-14). It was the sign of God’s covenant with him. Evidently, Moses was already circumcised, and one of his two boys, but not the other. God was going to have no exceptions when it comes to obedience to His commands. It was not one rule for Moses as leader and a different rule for the rest of the people. Even Moses was not indispensable if he would not obey God; and the fact that his Midianite wife found circumcision distasteful was irrelevant (v.25).

Once that was settled, the business on hand could continue. God was already at work, prompting Aaron to meet his brother whom he had not seen for many years (v.27). For both of them, the adventure of faith began on a very promising note (vs.29-31). They would soon face the counterattack of the enemy.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

PRAYER FOCUS
BE STILL!!

The Lord will fight for you while you keep still. – Exodus 14:14

THANK GOD FOR:
► His ability to keep and sustain all who trust in Him.
► Being a Refuge and Strength, a great Help in times of distress to all His children.

PRAY FOR:
► Grace to keep listening to the still voice of God, instead of the noise of our worries.
► The joy of the Lord to continue to strengthen us till the expected result arrives.
► God to open our eyes to see that He that keepeth us had neither slumbered nor slept and has the ability to calm all the storms of life.

PRAY AGAINST:
► Too much noise and movements instead of remaining still, waiting especially when we are undergoing pain and sufferings.
► Carrying our worries everywhere instead of putting them in God’s hands.
