TOPIC: There is Always a Remnant

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you order my steps today through your word as I meditate on it.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Romans 11:1-10

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 20th June 2023 MESSAGE:

While it may be true that there is a falling away from faith and rejection of the gospel in some quarters across the world, it is equally true that through the ages, God has always remained with a remnant to carry on the faith (Nehemiah 1:3; Haggai 1:12). That gives us the reason to hope that there will always be a remnant. Compare Paul’s view of himself as a remnant with Elijah’s view of himself as the only prophet left from Jezebel’s massacre (1 Kings 19:10). To which group do you belong?

Paul was certain that God had many remnants like him (1 Kings 19:18). When we observe the situation in our nations, especially in Africa, we may be tempted to feel that we are the only prophets in the land, but what did God tell Elijah (v.5)? It is also tempting to assume that hard work is the criteria for pleasing God. Paul reminds us that it is by grace alone not our effort (v.5). We do whatever God has assigned us faithfully, but we trust God to always accomplish His plans. How does Paul address that in v.5b? If our salvation is by grace, our growth and sustenance are also by grace.

In our dispensation of grace, we can seek God and trust Him for more of the grace to fulfil His purposes.
