Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 21 March 2024
The phrase, “The one my heart loves” occurred four times in 3:1-4. True love comes from the heart (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 22:36-40). Our spouses must hold a special place in our heart which is a reflection of how much we love God. Love that comes from the heart among spouses does several things; mention some of them (3:1-4). What sacrifice are you making to keep and nurture the love of your heart?
“My lover is mine and I am his” (2:16) – True love is exclusive and cannot be shared among several partners. As spouses, do you feel this sense of exclusiveness for each other; that you truly belong to each other unreservedly? When this exclusiveness is removed or abused, it becomes adultery. Personal ownership of each other and being responsible for and to each other keeps love alive and builds confidence in your marriage. Probably the lover in this song was King Solomon and the song was written to celebrate his wedding (3:6-11). Wedding is a day of great joy and calls for celebration. Let us hold our marriages in high esteem.
Practice/Word Application
What next? Marriage and the family are seriously being corrupted today – same sex marriage, cohabitation, adultery, divorce, etc. What can the church do to restore the dignity of marriage? What role will you play?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Lord, build us godly families!
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Jeremiah 15:20
“And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD.”
