Topic: A Solemn Caution

Opening Prayer: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.

Scripture: 1 Kings 9:1–14

Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

The Lord appeared to Solomon again after he had finished building of the Temple and the king’s house. God assured Solomon that his prayers had been heard. He had accepted to do as the king has requested in his prayers.

Now read vv.4–5 and note what God promises to do for Solomon if he would walk with him and obey him. If we also as Christians would be careful to walk with God in Christ Jesus, the Lord will establish us and make our lives fruitful. See also Joshua 1:8 and Jude 24.

Read vv.6–9 and find out what will happen to Israel if they fail to obey him but go off to worship other gods. What will happen to the Temple Solomon had built for the Lord’s name? In our contemporary world, it is so easy to be led astray by false prophets and teachers or get oneself held down by worldly concerns and hence fail to be faithful to Christ Jesus.

Hiram, the king of Tyre was the main financier of Solomon’s two major building projects but not for free. Read vv.10–11 again. How could the apparent displeasure of Hiram (v.12) have been avoided?

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application
• And So? Carefully examine your life and your expectations. Are you willing to walk with God in your daily living?

Prayer Points
• Lord, help me to walk faithfully with you that I may obtain your promises.
• Thank God for the effect of witnessing in converting sinners to faith in Christ Jesus; bless His name for your salvation.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with John 14:21
