Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th June 2023 MESSAGE:

The church in Rome composed of Jews and Gentiles. Members came from different backgrounds with diverse worldviews and eating practices. Little things mattered to some while others overlooked some things as non-essentials. Can you identify the various ways the believers took different stands? Are these issues still present in the Church today? One of the reasons for so many denominations today can often be traced to the influence of the cultures of the founding people/countries on their views of the Gospel. Paul here discusses the proper attitude Christians should have towards one another in debatable areas of conduct.

We have some people who restrict what they eat for health reasons while others do the same for religious reasons. Read v.4 again and listen to Paul’s advice. We are not in the position to judge what people do or why, especially when they are mature Christians in their own right. What is Paul’s advice in vs.12-13? The love of Christ which we are expected to share compels us to support people and leave the judgment to God. We must not allow these trivial issues, where our faith and love for God is concerned, to destabilise our fellowship.

THANK GOD FOR:
► Making us one in Him in SU as we all hold on to our God and His word undiluted.
► The evidences of revival among us as we continue to grow in faith and in the love of Christ.

PRAY FOR:
► Increased encouragement to grow as we remain knited together in God’s love, understanding and in the knowledge of God’s word.
► Grace to walk in a manner worthy of the call of God upon lives.
► Eagerness in all our SU formation to keep maintaining the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace in all we do.

PRAY AGAINST:
► The spirit that makes believers quarrel over opinions and pass Judgment on each other.
► Dissensions and ungodly debate that separate instead of uniting the Church.
