TOPIC: Attitude Towards Marriage and Children

The Pharisees asked a spiritual question with a legal clothing. What, however, was the motive behind their question? Read v.2 again. The crowd, made up of possibly men who would like Jesus to approve their position on divorce must be disappointed by His response.

Jesus focused on the spiritual implication of marriage just as it was intended originally. Marriage is a life-long relationship. Both husband and wife have their responsibilities – wife to respect and be loyal to her husband and the husband to love his wife sacrificially. In vs.5-11, Jesus equates the sin of adultery to divorcing one’s spouse and marrying someone else. Read Malachi 2:16 and note God’s mind on divorce. Read also Matthew 9:9 for the exception to the rule. Even then, love does cover multitude of sins.

What other lessons can we learn from the way Jesus dealt with wrong attitudes towards children (vs.13-16)? We need, like children, to totally trust and depend on our heavenly Father. How does Christ’s gentle rebuke of His disciples and acceptance of these children (vs.14-15) highlight the importance of children ministry?

CLOSING PRAYER
Commit Christian homes to the Lord in prayer today. Pray that the Lord may deliver them from little foxes that seek to destroy their vineyard.

► The health, the food, the finance, the grace to go on. It could have only been God.

PRAY FOR:
► The spirit of praise and thanksgiving as we sing to His glory today and forever.
► Deliberate decision to continue to live for Him no matter the situation or circumstances we find ourselves in.
► Strength to continue in prayer, worship, fellowshipping with God and then in the coming month if the Lord tarries.

PRAY AGAINST:
► Ungrateful heart that keeps counting sorrows instead of blessings. ► Anxieties and worries about tomorrow, forgetting that the God that saw us through yesterday is still the same God of tomorrow.
