Scripture Union Daily Guide 28 June 2023 Message:

We view food as a mundane activity many times. But it could make or break a young Christian. This is the argument that Paul puts to us today. Food is good for our body but because of the food laws that the Jews had known well enough, it became a source of arguments in the New Testament church. Jesus addressed that in Matthew 15:1-20.

The disciples also resolved this in Acts 15, but it remained a problem. Notice Paul’s admonition in vs.15-17. While our faith is not dependent on food, there is still an aspect of our faith and the faith of others who look up to us that may be affected by what we eat or do not eat. Food is the example here but the principle it teaches is for us to be careful how we live our lives, what we do and where we go. We are constantly in the limelight. How we live our lives could either help someone else to grow or be pulled down.

The freedom we have in Christ should be for building each other up. We should not be the source of offence or cause anyone to fall. When we live by faith with clear conscience guided by the word of God, we would try to be safe and care for others. What is the implication of v.23?
