Scripture Union Daily Guide 3 November 2022 Devotional for Thursday

TOPIC: The Benefits of Confession

OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual insight into the truth of your word as I study it.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 32:1‐11

Scripture Union Daily Guide 3 November 2022 OUTLINE

David wrote this Psalm probably after he committed adultery and murder (2 Samuel 11&12). For a while, he did not ask God for forgiveness, probably thinking that the matter was a secret that had been buried. What was his experience at the time (vs.3‐4)? Have you ever tried, like David, to hide some sins you committed? Confession, repentance, and forgiveness are inevitable parts of our faith.

In confession, we acknowledge our wrong doings to God, accepting that the wrong was against Him and that He has the right to punish us. Repentance shows that we are sorry for the wrong we have done and are ready to turn from evil to doing what is right.

Trying to hide our sins from God will only cause us sorrow and stress of living under a yoke of guilt (Proverbs 28:13). Read vs.1‐2, 5‐7 again. Take note that when we confess our sins, God does not only forgive us, but He never counts them against us again. We become free and happy, and begin to enjoy God’s protection, blessings, grace and guidance (vs.8‐11). This is the ultimate purpose for Jesus’ death.

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Practice/Word Application
And So: Search your life to see if there is any sin you need to confess to God. Tell Him about it and pray for forgiveness.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• LORD, please put your fear in me that I may be conscious of righteousness.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Matthew 5:7
