Scripture Union Daily Guide 30 June 2020
Topic: Secret to Success
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.
Scripture: Psalms 127:1–5
Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
People spend a lot of money in Africa to build walls around their houses for protection against robbers and burglars. It is the Lord who can safely protect us in our houses and cities. Without God we can do nothing; but with him all things are possible. We must never view the blessings we receive as human achievement. They are not because of our clever devices. They are from God. The Apostle James made this clear. Read James 1:17.
Laziness is not encouraged, but endless toil without God is useless (v.2; Eccl. 5:1;2Cor.3:6–7). The one who enjoys God’s love should neither be tensed up nor harassed by worries but enjoy sound sleep (v.2b). That children are a heritage from the Lord means they are a reward from God and not simply a product of the human strength. They are God’s gift. If you are having difficulties bearing children, seek all the medical help you can get, but most importantly, cry out to God. He is the One who gives couples children. He did it for Elizabeth and Zechariah (Luke 1:6–23).
Even if you are not blessed with children, do not forget that having Christ in your life is most valuable. But you can also consider adopting some abandoned children.
