Scripture Union Daily Guide 5th November 2022 Devotional for Saturday

TOPIC: Accountability!

OPENING PRAYER: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.

SCRIPTURE: Act 21:15‐26

Scripture Union Daily Guide 5th November 2022 OUTLINE

Read vs.17‐20 again and note carefully how the apostle Paul regards his ministry. He had just arrived from one of his missionary journeys and was back in Jerusalem to report to the elders of the church. We learn two lessons from this action of Paul: ?

Our ministries in the church are subject to the leadership of the church ? It is our duty to report in detail, the progress and challenges we face in our ministries to our church leadership. It is the reason supporters insist on field reports from gospel workers. It encourages sustained prayer, giving, accountability, and shows that God answers prayer (v.20a). Vs.20b‐25:

The Jerusalem brethren gave Paul good counsel with genuine intentions, and he complied (v.26). This should ordinarily have proved that, “there is no truth in these reports” by critics. He performed religious rituals in the temple with other Jews. Paul’s own principle was to be “all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some” (1 Corinthians 9:19‐23).

Unfortunately, not all good intentions have good outcomes. Nevertheless, we must never shift from righteousness just to save our skin or do things because they work. Jesus warns that risks would accompany the gospel (John 16:33).
