Scripture Union Daily Guide 6 November 2022 Devotional for Sunday

TOPIC: Divine Intervention!

OPENING PRAYER: Open my eyes O Lord that I might behold wondrous things from your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: Acts 21:27‐40

Scripture Union Daily Guide 6th November 2022 OUTLINE

Observe in today’s reading how false rumour spreads and causes trouble! Some of the Jews from the province of Asia had misunderstood the Gospel that the apostle Paul preached. They misinformed the Jewish crowd in Jerusalem who seized Paul and manhandled him. What were their allegations? Were these true? Thank God that the Roman troops came to Paul’s rescue.

Religious intolerance and violence are not acceptable in any society. It was through such intolerance that Stephen was stoned to death (Acts 7:54‐60), our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified (Matthew 27:20‐26) and many innocent people have lost their lives, homes and livelihood in some of our nations. It is ridiculous that religious issues are often managed by pagans! See the commander’s efforts and frustrations at getting to the truth (vs.33‐36). Obviously, he had his own prejudices too (see v.38).

Thus, the victim was arrested and bound for the barracks while his attackers went scot‐free. Despite the threat to his life, Paul sought an opportunity to present Christ to the angry crowd. How often do we take advantage of every situation, even when adverse, to make Christ known?

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Practice/Word Application
So what? Watch out for every opportunity to witness to Christ.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Pray that you will remember that God’s intervention is always at the appointed time.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Jeremiah 24:7

One Year Bible Reading Plan
Song of Songs 6, 7; Proverbs 12; Psalms 106, 107.
