Scripture Union Daily Guide 8 August 2020 Message

Solomon employed Huram whose mother was a widow from the tribe of Naphtali and father from Tyre to work on the furnishings of the Temple. He was a craftsman in bronze. He had the ingenuity of a Tyrian, and the affection of an Israelite to the house of God.

The Psalmist will say, “Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him”. Yes, God may use the gifting of any person to serve his purposes, no matter the person’s background. Two huge pillars of bronze stood at the entrance of the Temple and had special names. What purpose do you think the pillars served and why name them? One was named Jakin meaning, “He shall establish” and the other, Boaz which meant “In him is strength”.

Indeed, we depend upon God only, and not upon any sufficiency of our own, for strength and establishment in all our religious exercises. When we come to wait upon God, and find our hearts wandering and unsettled, by faith let us draw help from heaven. Solomon brought into the Temple the dedicated things, which David had devoted to the honour of God (v.51). They were for use and safekeeping.
