Scripture Union Daily Guide For September 25, 2023

Read Scripture Union Daily Guide For September 25, 2023 Devotional, Monday SU Daily Guide Reading

TOPIC: Crying for Help

Opening Prayer: Help me to understand the exceeding greatness of your power as I read through this passage, dear Lord.

Scripture: Psalm 54:1-7

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

SU DAILY GUIDE FOR TODAY 25TH SEPTEMBER 2023 MESSAGE:

David had fled from Saul and sought refuge among the Ziphites but they betrayed him (cf. 1 Samuel 23:15-20). Can you imagine what it feels like to be betrayed by people you trusted to protect you? Many times, we seek refuge in the wrong place or things.

Notice the reason for David’s cry for help in v.3 and how God demonstrated His faithfulness to him in v.7. In crying for God’s help, David expressed his total confidence in God to deliver him completely from the hot pursuit of King Saul and his army (vs.1,4&5). He trusts in God as his helper and sustainer (v.4). In time of trouble, rather than being discouraged, we should learn to express our confidence in God’s ability to help us.

In the certainty that God has heard his cry, David rejoices in the Lord and makes a vow to Him (v.6). This is faith in action. Can you believe God for victory over your trials and give Him praise in advance for it?
On this occasion, Saul and his army were very close to arresting David but see the disruption that God brought to them in 1 Samuel 23:27-29 (cf. Psalm 124:6-7).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, I choose to put my hope in you alone amid my trials and testing, for you alone are able to save me.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 55:12
