TOPIC: The Making of the Altar
OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual insight into the truth of your word as I study it.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Exodus 38:1-20
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 3: Is there any command for me to obey?
MESSAGE: Vs.1-2 show us that a definite place was made to offer burnt offerings to God. Though we may not make altars for sacrificing animals today as Jesus Christ has done the complete sacrifice with His blood, we must make our homes and bodies places where we offer sacrifices of worship to our Lord (Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 13:15-16). Also, since they that worship God must worship in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24), our hearts must always be in a right state for us to meet and commune with God.
The construction of this altar was according to divine pattern. Women also contributed to the true worship along with men at the door of the tent of meeting. They appear to be part of the workforce and the worshiping community. They willingly parted with their mirrors for use in the tabernacle. These mirrors were used by the priests to look at their appearance as they served God in the tabernacle. According to James (1:23 – 24), the word of God is the mirror through which we should examine and correct our lives daily and from time to time. How often do you use it?
Practice/Word Application
So what? Do you have a personal altar where you meet with God daily?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
IS YOUR ALL ON THE ALTAR?
1. You have longed for sweet peace,
And for faith to increase,
And have earnestly, fervently prayed;
But you cannot have rest,
Or be perfectly blest,
Until all on the altar is laid.
Refrain
Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid?
Your heart does the Spirit control?
You can only be blest,
And have peace and sweet rest,
As you yield Him your body and soul.
2. Would you walk with the Lord,
In the light of His Word,
And have peace and contentment alway?
You must do His sweet will,
To be free from all ill,
On the altar your all you must lay.
3. O we never can know
What the Lord will bestow
Of the blessings for which we have prayed,
Till our body and soul
He doth fully control,
And our all on the altar is laid.
4. Who can tell all the love
He will send from above,
And how happy our hearts will be made,
Of the fellowship sweet
We shall share at His feet,
When our all on the altar is laid.
Closing Prayer
Lord, use your word to show me the true picture of myself. Then help me Lord, to present my life as Your altar.
