TOPIC: A Grateful And Appreciative Heart
OPENING PRAYER: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Romans 16:1-16
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony (Psalm 133:1, NLT)! We see this scripture displayed in today’s passage as Paul went down memory lane to recall the labour and ministry of many brethren. He mentioned them by name, commended and celebrated them. He recognized their ministry and encouraged fellow brethren to honour them highly. We have so much to learn here.
While we must ensure we return all glory to God (for apart from Him, we can do nothing), we must be careful to appreciate and honour one another. If we lack gratitude to man, we are more likely to also be ungrateful to God. Mention some of the notable names and the specific ministries they were known for. See vs.1-4.
Phoebe deserved higher honour because she had worked hard and ministered or helped many including Paul (vs.1-2). Priscilla and Aquila were co-workers with Paul in the ministry. They even risked their lives for Paul and the Gentile brethren and gave out their home as accommodation for church meetings (vs.3-5a; also see 1 Corinthians 16:19). Andronicus and Junia suffered imprisonment with Paul (vs.6-7). Rufus’ mother was a mother to Paul (vs.13).
Practice/Word Application
And So: Think back through the past week and see if there are people you need to appreciate. Go ahead and do so by text, email, call, visit, etc. Thank God for making them a blessing to you
