TOPIC: From Petition to Worship
FOCUS SCRIPTURE: “According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.” (Luke 1: 9)
STREAMS OF JOY DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE BY PASTOR JERRY EZE
Our Focal Scripture speaks of how it was Zachariah’s turn to burn incense in the temple. In bible times, burning of incense was symbolic of worship. Incense was burnt to create an atmosphere of worship and of the presence of God. It was not an act of petition; it was an act of worship. Zachariah moved from petition to worship. He moved from asking for what the Lord would do for him, to just being a worshipper.
Friend, in this season, and as 2022 gradually comes to a close, dare to move from petition to worship. Move from simply having prayer points, to worshipping the Lord. Build your intimacy with God. Strengthen your connection to God. Let your lips and your heart be filled with worship unto God. Appreciate the Lord for His goodness to you and to people around you or connected to you. Increase your worship and intimacy with God.
Notice that it was in this atmosphere of worship that an angel appeared to Zachariah to announce that his prayer had been heard and that his wife Elizabeth would bear a child. He moved from petition to worship, and his petition was heard. Worship seemed to remind God of what He was yet to do for Zachariah. Your worship will put God in remembrance of what He is yet to do for you. Your worship will put your matters into heaven’s priority.
Your moments with God are not mere opportunities to remind Him of what He is yet to do for you. In this season, make it all about God and not all about yourself and your needs. Be intentional to appreciate God for who He is. Appreciate God for what He did for people around you. Spend time in the atmosphere of God’s presence. Rise above your needs and end the year on a note of worship and intimacy with Jesus.
Remember, in an atmosphere of worship, heaven remembered the past petition of Zachariah. Your worship will put heaven on notice for your remaining, pending requests, which will be granted in their due time.
Psalm 29: 2 says: “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”
DECLARATION: I move from petition to worship; heaven will remember me, in Jesus’ name!
