Streams of Joy Devotional 5 May 2021 – Let it Go

Topic: Let it Go

Focus Scripture: “And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;” (1 Samuel 30:1)

Streams of Joy Devotional 5 May 2021: When the Amalekites invaded and burnt Ziklag, David was already anointed and destined for kingship. Being a king-designate, he needed to be in Jerusalem and not Ziklag. Ziklag was not the locale of the kingship he was anointed for; Ziklag was not the environment for him to reign; Ziklag was not his destination; Ziklag was not the throne that David needed; so they burnt a place where David needed to leave.

Friend, don’t hold on to the things that God wants to burn in your life. Don’t hold on to the same relationships that God wants you to relinquish. Don’t hold on to the doors that God wants to shut; don’t be fixated on the chapters that God wants to close; don’t feel bad when God allows your ‘Ziklag’ to be burnt; don’t be offended when some opportunities you need don’t come your way despite all efforts made.

There is a throne beyond your ‘Ziklag’; there is a higher level that God has orchestrated for you that is bigger than whatever you have ever lost; there is a higher level of influence and relevance that God will cause to be your portion if only you are willing to stay away from whatever the Lord will have you stay away from; there are results that God would orchestrate if you let go of whatever results He doesn’t want to give you anymore.

David pursued and overtook the enemy, and recovered all that was taken from him, but he didn’t bother to rebuild Ziklag. He knew what to recover and what not to recover. Ask God to help you discern what needs to be recovered and what doesn’t need to be recovered. Ask God to show you what needs to be taken seriously and what no longer needs your attention. Ask God to help you discern what isn’t needed.

The burning of your Ziklag can be the signpost of positivity if you pay attention to the heartbeat of the Spirit of God. If God allows it to be burnt, be sure that you do not need it.

John 15:2 says: “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”

Declare With Me: I let go of every ‘Ziklag’ that God wants to burn, in Jesus’ name!
