The Upper Room Daily Devotional 12th December 2022 | Come to Me

The Upper Room Daily Devotional 12th December 2022
The Upper Room Daily Devotional 12th December 2022 written by Glenda (Ontario, Canada). As you study today’s devotional, remember this; “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)

TOPIC: Come to Me

TODAY’S READING
Isaiah 55:1-3

1“Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.

2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.

3 Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David.

KEY VERSE: Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? – Isaiah 55:2 (NIV)

THE UPPER ROOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 12TH DECEMBER 2022 MESSAGE

Tap, tap, tap! What is making that noise? I wondered. Upon investigation, I discovered a persistent little woodpecker tapping on a metal light pole where he would never find an insect for breakfast.

Pondering this curious sight, I thought about how often we humans go after false sources of nourishment like popularity, money, education, or success. But Jesus tells us, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (Jn. 6:35). Jesus is the source of abundant life! Only he can satisfy our hunger. Too often we seek sustenance from false sources, like a woodpecker on a metal pole. But when we listen to Jesus’ call “Come to me!” and open ourselves to God’s word, we can receive new life (see Jn. 7:37).

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father God, help us to hear your call and respond so that we can share your love with others. We pray the prayer your Son taught us, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen” (Matt. 6:9-13, KJV).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Jesus is the true nourishment I need.
