FIRE SCRIPTURE
1 Samuel 15:7-15

7 Saul defeated the Amalekites. He fought them and chased them all the way from Havilah to Shur, at the border of Egypt. 8 Agag was the king of the Amalekites. Saul captured Agag alive. Saul let Agag live, but he killed all the men in Agag’s army. 9 Saul and the Israelite soldiers felt bad about destroying everything. So they let Agag live. They also kept the fat cattle, the best sheep, and the lambs. They kept everything that was worth keeping. They didn’t want to destroy those things. They destroyed only what was not worth keeping.

Samuel Tells Saul About His Sin
10 Then Samuel received this message from the Lord: 11 “Saul has stopped following me, so I am sorry that I made him king. He is not doing what I tell him.” Samuel became angry and cried to the Lord all night.

12 Samuel got up early the next morning and went to meet Saul. But the people told Samuel, “Saul went to Carmel. He went there to set up a stone monument to honor himself. Then he left there and went down to Gilgal.”
So Samuel went to Saul. Saul had just offered the first part of the things he took from the Amalekites as a burnt offering to the Lord. 13 When Samuel came near to Saul, Saul greeted him and said, “The Lord bless you! I have obeyed the Lord’s commands.”

14 But Samuel said, “Then what is that sound I hear? Why do I hear sheep and cattle?”
15 Saul said, “The soldiers took them from the Amalekites. They saved the best sheep and cattle to burn as sacrifices to the Lord your God. But we destroyed everything else.”

MFM Daily Devotional 31st March 2023 MESSAGE

Beloved, as we again look at the victory over the spirit of error today, I implore you to carefully read through our Fire Scripture for today.

Saul, the first king of Israel, did the unthinkable. Recall that the Amalekites had been the first to oppose the nation of Israel as they wandered in the desert after they were set free from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 17:8-13). They represent evil power and opposition to God, His people and His truth.

It was Saul’s responsibility to totally destroy the Amalekites because of their evil ways. But Saul failed to fully obey God’s command about the Amalekites by sparing their king, the best livestock and other spoils of war. He even tried to offer the false excuse that he had good intentions and had spared the best things to sacrifice to God. The Lord did not accept that flimsy excuse and later rejected Saul as king. Saul’s bad example teaches us that partial obedience is disobedience. God requires full obedience.

Dearly beloved, nothing but the spirit of error made Saul to act against the divine command? What did Saul need king Agag for? It was the spirit of error that made him to do what ordinarily he should not have done as king.

God is not impressed by anything done outside His instructions and commands. Rather than instant repentance, Saul still tried to put up a strong argument in self-defense. Imagine, Before the Almighty God! What effrontery and impunity! Spirit of error in active manifestation!

The end of story Saul’s story was nothing but affliction and destruction. The once well-favoured man that rose to the position of the first king in Israel became an odour in God’s nostrils, as a result of his inability to flee the spirit of error. He ended with acute rebellion, lost his royalty and position before God.

Beloved, the same thing awaits any child of God who is not careful to disconnect from anything that can set him against God. Do you seek to finish well and strong in your Christian journey and life? Depart from the spirit of error, often provoked by pride and arrogance. Deal with sin and self; the activities of the flesh in you and embrace the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:19-21;22-23).
