MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 17TH JULY 2023 MESSAGE:

Yesterday, we started looking at keys to a happy marriage. We made it clear that God instituted marriage and that His purpose is for you to enjoy and not to endure it. We also learned some keys to a happy marriage.

Another key, according to our memory verse in Proverbs 21:9, is that a wife should be a peacemaker in the house. A wife who is a peacemaker is a winner. A wife with an argumentative spirit makes life miserable for her husband. When a man knows that he will be warmly welcomed by a contended and peaceful wife, he looks forward to going home on time.

Communication is another key to a happy marriage. Every couple should make it a point of duty to communicate effectively with each other. Don’t form the habit of communicating with your spouse through text message, WhatsApp or written note under the pillow. This particular habit has made a man to lose a big contract which could have led to his family’s breakthroughs. A wife got the message from him but because she was not in talking terms with her husband, she wrote the reply and put it under the pillow. It was too late when the husband eventually saw the message.

An open door of effective communication with your spouse will give you a happy and peaceful relationship. Better communication means better satisfaction in a relationship in which you discuss everything with each other and thus reduce the incidence of fight or quarrel. For communication to be effective in marriage, couples should learn how to be specific when issues arise. A statement like “that’s what you do all time” is not helpful nor healthy for marriage. Still on tips of effective communication, at times, when you feel bitter or disappointed about an issue, try and communicate it to each other in order for change to occur. But in so doing, try as much as possible to express the negative feelings constructively instead of abusively or by condemning your spouse. Also, to have an effective communication and a successful marriage, both spouses must be able to hear each other’s complaints without getting defensive.
