TOPIC: Unbelief: A Very Grievous Sin

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Mark 16: 9 – 20

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

We have recorded here three of Jesus’s post-resurrection appearances before his ascension.
After Jesus’ resurrection, as prophesied by the Scriptures and by Jesus himself, Mary Magdalene became the first to see Him! When she told the disciples, they did not believe! Even when the two disciples who met Jesus on their way to Emmaus (vs.12-13 cf. Luke 24:13-35) told the disciples, they still did not believe. Notice what Jesus did to reassure them of His resurrection (v.14). But He had to rebuke them for their “stubborn unbelief” (NLT). We must beware of the sin of unbelief (see 2 Kings 7:2, Hebrews 3:12).

Then Jesus gave the all-time great commission to all disciples (v.15) and accompanied this with a great promise (see vs.17-18). The prompt obedience of the disciples (v.20) is a challenge to all who are Christ’s disciples today. Are you obeying the same command? Jesus, in v.16, was categorical about ANYONE who believes and ANYONE who does not believe. Notice the end of each group. To which group do you belong? Unfortunately, there is no midway. Just as Jesus was taken up to heaven (v.19), he will return to give each person what he deserves (Act 1:11). Are you prepared for his return?

PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
A challenge: Is the Great Commission still the Great Commission to you or it has become the Great Omission?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

HYMN: Will You Come To The Cross
1. O burdened soul, no longer wait,
But give your wanderings o’er;
Now humbly kneel at Jesus’ feet,
And slight His call no more.

Refrain: Will you come to the cross
Where happy you may be?
Will you come to the cross,
His blood your only plea?
In the cross, blessèd cross,
Is pardon full and free;
Will you come?
He will save you there!

2. Behold a fountain filled with blood,
He opened long ago;
And there your sins, tho’ crimson red,
Shall be as white as snow.

3. Behold a straight and narrow path
That leads to endless day;
O seek it now thro’ Christ the Lord:
There is no other way.

4. Then turn to Him in simple faith,
Accept His promise true;
And O! believe with all your heart
That Jesus died for you.

CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, give me a heart and a burden for the lost, and help me to reach out to them.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Jeremiah 24:7
