TOPIC: Sin is Conquerable

OPENING PRAYER:  May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.

SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:1 – 11

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
• Q 8: Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?

During Paul’s time, some Christians felt if they were forgiven whenever they repent, then they become free to live as they pleased. Even if they sin, they already have forgiveness. Paul explains that such an idea is total error. What reason does he give against continuing to sin when one becomes a believer? When we repent and are baptized, we bury our old sinful self with Christ and rising out of water symbolizes the resurrection with Christ.

We die to sin and live for Christ (Philippians1:21). Therefore, living a life of sin is trivializing what Jesus did for us on the cross. The whole reason why Christ died in our stead was to remove sin from our lives. Avoiding sin is showing appreciation of what Jesus Christ did for us. Do you live in obedience to God?

The Holy Spirit gives us power to resist sin and so live a life pleasing to God, a life we now share in Christ’s death and resurrection (vs.4,5). What are the implications of dying and rising with Christ in vs.5-10?

PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
Thought: What may be stopping you from living a fulfilling life with Christ? Ask the Lord for grace to overcome them.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
