TOPIC: What You Hear – The Root Cause of Fear
SCRIPTURE: What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true. JOB 3:25. (New Living Translation).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: What you hear affects what you fear. What you watch affects what you fear.
SOD DEVOTIONAL 30TH JUNE 2023 MESSAGE:
Fear has been identified to be one major cause of oppression, affliction and sickness in life.
Our anchor Scriptures reveals that what you always fear would happen to you.
Therefore, it is very important to deal with fear. And one of the ways of dealing with fear is to mind what you hear.
Now, a major cause of fear is continuous openness and exposure to negative news or reports.
Continuous openness and exposure to negative news or reports is a trigger for fear. This means, your ears are opened all the time to negative news, from the media or physical bearers of negative news or reports.
Sometime ago, I remember children who watched a movie, a fearful movie, and became victims of permanent fear. These children became afraid permanently because of what they watched.
When you fail to check what enters your ears or what your eyes see, you are endangering your life. There are those who found themselves in some mysterious confrontations or battles by watching horror movies or listening to some horrible stories.
Deuteronomy 13:11 says,
And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.
This shows that what you hear determines what you fear. What you hear affects what you fear. What you watch also affects what you fear.
I have heard people tell me, “Oh. There is a terrible event that happened somewhere, and I want to send the video to you.” I would tell them, “No. Please don’t. I don’t need to watch it.” I did so to safeguard my heart. It is very important.
By all means, guard your heart from fear by avoiding negative or fearful sights and sounds from entering your eyes and ears.
REMEMBER THIS: What you hear affects what you fear. What you watch also affects what you fear.
ASSIGNMENT:
1. Refuse to admit fear in your life so you don’t attract affliction, sickness and oppression.
2. Deal with fear by being mindful of what you hear or watch.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord for Your Word to me today. I receive the grace to guard my heart against fear by being selective of the sight and sound that enter through my eyes and ears, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
